Audio Solutions by Design debut Party—Toronto, ON

Situated next door to Toronto’s foremost high end store, American Sound of Canada, is the new boutique Audio Solutions by Design. The boutique is the brainchild of Angie Lisi, owner of both stores and purveyor of the best in high-end audio gear.

Each year, Lisi has a late Spring party to celebrate and thank her customers and friends. I’m lucky to count as both. And each year, no matter where I’m living in the world, Angie invites me. Sure, twist my arm.

If you’ve ever attended one of Angie’s parties, you know you’ll be getting great food, fantastic wine, live music, conversation with passionate audiophiles, and a chance to hear the very latest gear. And this year, lots of special guests. No arm twist needed. Even though I’m situated across the country from Toronto, I’m there.

Just a small sample of Angie’s incredible hospitality. Ribs, wings, cheese galore, and three food trucks—pizza, tacos and crepes! Incroyable!!

Angie provided a DJ, a string quartet and a jazz trio for music all day. Plus a psychic for readings and D.Spade, the most extraordinary magician. His tricks were remarkable.

This year, the soggy weather worldwide has plagued normally sunny Toronto, especially in glorious late Spring (not just Southern Ontario, it felt like winter in Munich and Tuscany last month and sub Mediterranean Victoria had an awful winter—and by awful, I mean one snowstorm). But the rain held off for the day. The sun shines brightly on audiophiles.

In the main building, which houses American Sound of Canada and Angie’s Audio Corner (Torontonians really are spoilt for choice), there are the premier legacy brands interspersed with exciting new brands, including Audio Research Corporation, Jeff Rowland Design Group, Aurender, Astell & Kern, Avantegarde Acoustic, Basis, Bel Canto, dCS, Rockport Technologies, Esoteric, Dynavector, Phasemation, T+A elektroakustik, Air Tight, Grado Labs, Koetsu, Lyra, Franco Serblin Loudspeakers, Focal, Boulder, Questyle, Sutherland Engineering, Franco Serbelin Loudspeakers, Transparent, VAC, van den Hul, MBL, Rega Research, and many more. A dream line up.

Originally, there was an annex next door for consignment items, etc, that Lisi has turned in to an enviable space, filled with curated, high end gear for the lifestyle connoisseur. Audio Solutions by Design is born. ASbD curates the finest in high end gear suited to your particular lifestyle, surroundings and family needs. The party

As usual, the party was very well attended and was a hit with all attendees. When I arrived at 2:00 p.m. there was street parking only—the two large lots were full. Other than many friends and customers, guests included manufacturers (willing to discuss and describe their designs), and, in addition to yours truly, Michael Fremer from Stereophile and Ernie Fisher from The Inner Ear Report were on hand to mix and mingle (and drink and eat).

Three legacy manufacturers were represented by the top men and ladies of the company. What wonderful people, all, and outstanding representatives of their products, all of which were of the mind blowing variety (see photos below for people pics).

Live music was provided by a jazz trio, a string quartet and a DJ. For some reason, I always have a plus 4 or five rather than one at this shindig. My friends were all audiophiles, both full on and lite, and a few musicians were in the mix. The musicians are always flabbergasted to hear their favourite music on Angie’s systems, even some of their own recordings.

Thank you

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Angie. For your kindness, your gift of audio knowledge to your customers and for your generosity to your friends. Your parties are always wonderful, this being no exception. I’m already looking forward to next June. Count me in. Wherever I am.
