The concert was a glorious evening of music making. Orchestral playing at its finest. What struck me most of all, though, was Simon Rattle’s ability, along with the almost chamber-like playing from the BPO, to let every phrase breathe, and I mean *every* phrase. Everything sounded in its place, but with the most beautiful phrasing. The blend and voicing was flawless, especially in the 3rd Symphony.

As such, I think the 3rd slightly more successful than the 4th. In fact, I’d place Rattle’s interpretation of the 3rd very highly. So musical. And the solos were incredible, especially Stefan Dohr’s superlative horn playing.

Look, I’m a big fan of the Berlin Phil’s digital push. It was a nice touch of sponsor Deutsche Bank for a freebie. Keep them coming! :)

No dropouts tonight and just a smidgen of latency.

If you like what you heard, why not tweet @BerlinPhil and say thanks.

Cheers, a
