I thought our jazzers would like to read of a new CD full of brilliant playing, great tracks, and a recording that a rank and file audiophile could take to shows and demonstrate how brilliant you are in your musical/recording choices.

Eric Alexander blows hard and cool. Right up my street. Indiana University trained and Dexter influenced, Alexander exemplifies what I love about mainstream jazz virtuosos. His creativity is wonderful in solos and the head is always straight with no chaser (he was second in the 1991 Theolonius Monk competition — to Joshua Redman, no less). Lots of bossa tinge, here.

Each track is handled beautifully by the sidemen Harold Mabern, Mike LeDonne (piano) and Joe Farnsworth (drums). The terrific recording is from the ears and touch of Rudy Van Gelder.
